Nigeria’s U17 Team, Golden Eaglets on Wednesday stepped up their preparation towards the forthcoming AFCON qualifier against Niger Republic with a 6-0 spanking of Santos Soccer Academy from Niger State at the NFF\ FIFA Goal Project Pitch in Abuja.
There were first half goals for David Emmanuel, Victor Boniface and
Nasifi Yahaya while second half substitutes Bolaji Oyeti, Musa Muktar and Usman Balolo also added their names to the scorers’ sheet. The friendly match against the Suleja-based side was Golden Eaglets’ first under Manu Garba in his second spell as Head coach of the country’s cadet side. In 2013, Garba led Nigeria to her fourth FIFA U-17 World Cup trophy in the United Arab Emirates. On Tuesday, he advised his new wards to be ready for tougher challenges, even as he commended them for a job well done.
“It was good we won our first friendly match today despite some mistakes but this is a good start to a long campaign,” said Garba. “Our objective here is to win all our matches irrespective of the team we are playing against.”
Garba also informed thenff.com that more friendly matches would be played by the Eaglets in readiness for next month’s qualifying fixture against neighbouring Niger Republic with the first leg fixed for the weekend of August 5-7 and the reverse in Nigeria a fortnight later.
