The Super Eagles will arrive in Krasnodar aboard a chartered aircraft on Saturday evening, for Tuesday’s prestige friendly with two –time world champions Argentina.
Officials confirmed to thenff.com that the aircraft will take off from the Aeroport Constantine at 1pm Algeria time (same as Nigeria), with the flight to last less than five hours.
A 1-1 draw against Algeria’s Fennecs at the Stade Mohamed Hamlaoui on Friday night stretched Nigeria’s unbeaten streak in FIFA World Cup qualifying to 35, the second –longest streak in the world behind 2010 FIFA World Cup winners Spain.
On Friday, NFF President Amaju Pinnick confirmed that a meeting between the Federation’s leadership and the Management of the team plus the team captain will take place in Krasnodar on Sunday.
“We are determined to treat all issues around our participation at the FIFA World Cup in Russia, one after the other, and at the end have a proper and duly –signed agreement that will put everyone’s mind at peace. We don’t intend to go into the coming year still pondering over how to handle any issue concerning preparation for or participation at the World Cup.
“The players and their officials have done the nation proud and they deserve to be happy and have a sense of fulfilment.”
Given very little chance to be able to compete creditably in a pool also having Algeria, Cameroon and Zambia, the Super Eagles heaped misery on the bookmakers by dropping only two points in their six matches and winning the ticket with a match to spare.
“It is not easy but a lot of preparation, good judgement and great choices led to this success. It was teamwork at its best. We believe the teamwork will work wonders at the World Cup,” Pinnick added.
