The stage is now set for the 5th FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, Jordan 2016 as the draw ceremony took place today at the King Hussein Cultural Centre in Amman.
Nigeria’s U-17 girls, Flamingoes were drawn in Group C alongside Brazil, England and Korea DPR in the preliminary round.
Host Jordan was pitched with Spain, Mexico and New Zealand in Group A. Another African representative, Cameroon will slug it with out with Venezuela, Germany and Canada in Group B while defending Champions Japan will battle Ghana, Paraguay and the United States in Group D.
The draw event was overseen by His Highness, Prince Ali bin Hussein, the President of the Jordanian football Association.The deputy director of FIFA’s competitions division and head of women’s competitions, Tatjana Haenni explained how the teams were assigned to pots based on four levels of performance record.
Coach Bala Nikyu in a brief chat with nff.com after the draws said that the Flamingoes will prepare adequately for the World Cup, and will qualify from the group and surpass previous record of quarter final berth. The Flamingoes will confront Brazil in their opening Group C match at the King Abdullah Stadium on October 1 before clashing with England on October 4 at the same venue. Their last group phase game is against Korea DPR on October 8 at the Amman International Stadium.
The competition will take place in three Jordanian cities of Amman, Irbid and Zarqa between 30th September 21st October.
