Football fans in Nigeria can now access video highlights of the matches of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) on their mobile phones.
While modalities to have the service on all mobile networks are being worked out, the service is now active on the Etisalat network.
A product of the commercial partnership between the League Management Company (LMC) and mobile telecommunication service vendors, VAS Digimobility Limited, football fans on the Etisalat network will access the service by sending ‘NIG’ to the short code, 8010 via short messaging service (SMS). The service costs N50 per week.
Subscribers wishing to enjoy the service are advised to ensure that they have data-enables smart phones to download and watch the videos.
“It is another engagement platform to expand the reach of the NPFL games as it is not possible for everyone to be at the stadium or watch live games on television. More importantly, all ten matches of the NPFL for every match day is on this video highlight platform”, said the Chairman of the LMC, Shehu Dikko after accessing the first download of the service.
Dikko also said the service is a business development of the LMC to create multiple channels of revenue for the NPFL.
“We will continue to optimize all existing assets of the NPFL especially using new media to create additional income streams and create value for shareholders”, Dikko further remarked.
He clarified that the service is not exclusive to any mobile network operator.
