Nigeria’s Flying Eagles have promised to put aside all the off field distractions and focus more on the task of qualifying Nigeria for the CAF U20 Africa Cup of Nations competition, Zambia 2017.
The players made this decision Thursday after their one hour heart to heart session with Nigeria Football Federation Vice President Seyi Akinwunmi.
Akinwunmi who also doubles as FA Chairman of Lagos state, thanked the boys for their patriotism and commitment in the face of daunting challenges and admonished the boys to remain steadfast for the sake of fatherland.
He also relayed a message from NFF president Amaju Pinnick to the players and coaches, assuring them that all their outstanding entitlements will be paid in due course. To further motivate the team, the NFF VP made a cash donation of N5, 000,000.00 (five million naira only) as his contribution ahead of Saturday’s match.
In a related development, Senior Special adviser on Sports to Lagos state governor Akinwunmi Ambode, Anthony Adeyinka, while addressing the Flying Eagles at the Teslim Balogun stadium few minutes before their evening training session, said, “On behalf of the people and government of Lagos state, I want to express our gratitude to the team for their discipline since arriving this state, I have the assurances of his Excellency the Executive Governor of Lagos state that we will do everything possible to make your stay here a memorable one. Governor Ambode plans to visit you on Friday to further boost your morale ahead of the match Adeyinka said.
