COMMUNIQUE OF EMERGENCY MEETING OF THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE OF NIGERIA FOOTBALL FEDERATION HELD AT THE HOTEL PRESIDENTIAL, PORT HARCOURT ON MONDAY, 7TH SEPTEMBER, 2015

The Executive Committee of Nigeria Football Federation held an emergency meeting at the Hotel Presidential, Port Harcourt on Monday, 7th September, 2015 to discuss important issues in Nigeria football and RESOLVED as follows:

1) Following a thorough appraisal of the recently pronounced aspiration of a few prominent Nigerians for the Office of Presidency of world football –governing body, FIFA, the Executive Committee decided thus:

  1. The aspiration of these eminent Nigerians is in tandem with the conviction of the present NFF Executive Committee that our country can no longer be a silent member of the international football community.
  2. In truth, there is nothing wrong with any qualified Nigerian aspiring to rule the world in any given sector.
  3. However, the Executive Committee noted with deep concern that over the past four (4) years, two prominent Nigerian football administrators had lost elections to be on the FIFA/CAF Executive Committees. The Committee believes these losses can be put down to lack of extensive consultations.
  4. Against the foregoing, the Executive Committee is determined that Nigeria will no longer be exposed to such defeats in international football politics, as they inevitably reduce our stock.
  5. In order to guard against our country suffering such undeserved embarrassment and being reduced to a fringe player at international level, the Committee unanimously resolved that aspirants for the Office of Presidency of FIFA fulfill the following conditions before the NFF can consider giving its endorsement:
  • Letter of endorsement from the relevant State Football Association.
  • Provision of evidence of fulfillment of the FIFA Presidential election eligibility provisions.
  • Endorsement by continental football governing body, CAF (the NFF can facilitate meetings with CAF top hierarchy).
  • Letter of support from the National Sports Commission.

Should any of the aspiring prominent Nigerians fulfill the above conditions, the Nigeria Football Federation will, unfailingly, throw its weight behind this candidate {only one person can be endorsed by the NFF} and vigorously campaign for the particular candidate to win election into the seat of the FIFA Presidency.

2) Committee unanimously commended the tireless and innovative efforts of the leadership of the League Management Company (LMC) under Mallam Shehu Dikko in improving all facets of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), which fully aligns with the vision and mission of the NFF.

3) The Executive Committee also unanimously commended the diligence and energy of the Referees Committee, the Technical and Development Committee and the Finance Committee in meeting set targets and objectives.

4) The Committee mandated the Technical and Development Committee to put all machinery in motion, to, within the next TWO WEEKS, facilitate the employment of a new Head Coach for the Senior Women National Team, Super Falcons.

5) Committee endorsed a proposal by the Referees Committee for the institution of a Referee of The Month award.
